Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon Progress

Book cover of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Finished!  Finally!  I plan to post a long review on this book next week, but my initial thoughts upon finishing?  Wowza.  I really loved it.  I'm a fast reader, but it took me a while to finish it because a) It's 580 pages, with small print; but more that b) It's absolutely stuffed with characters and plot and all sorts of theoretical and academic thought.  There's magic and alchemy and genetics and oenology (wine study) and history and literature and travel...and tons of other stuff, but I'll save it for my full review.

Everything about this book was unexpected...I started it after reading a two-sentence summary at a bookstore, and I'm glad I didn't know anything about it because that would have ruined it for me.  One thing made me really mad,'s part of a trilogy, and the next one doesn't come out for at least a year!  It's the Harry Potter/Hunger Games problem all over again.  I'm not good at waiting.  Sigh...guess I don't have a choice, huh?
