Armchair BEA Blogger Interview: Braintasia Books

Armchair Book Expo America logo
I’m so glad I got to interview Cade from Braintasia Books for this week’s Armchair BEA.  Cade is a very cool chick, and her blog is a go-to for fans of paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and YA.  She’s a college student in SoCal, and is blogging about books while honing her skills in hopes of writing for T.V. some day.

Cool blog name.  What does it mean and how did you come up with it?
Thanks! It's actually a reference to zombies. I was really into the Southern Vampires series (True Blood) back when I started my blog--still am, actually--and I decided to combine zombies with Fangtasia, Eric's vampire bar, so voila, Braintasia.

So which do you prefer, the books or the show?
I love the books and the show in completely different ways because, in reality, they are completely different. The only thing that is the same is that some of the characters have the same/similar names and they are both about vampires. If I could date one of the characters in real life, it would definitely be Eric Northman, from the books or the tv show.

Why did you decide to start blogging?

I started blogging about books because I love talking about what I read, but most of my family just thought that I was annoying because they aren't huge readers, so I started a blog. My goal was mostly to stop being that one weird chick who's always going on and on about something no one else cares about, so I decided to "talk" to people who do care.

What are some of your blogging highs and lows?
My blogging highs have been hitting 100 followers, then hitting 200 followers, getting my first review copy, and finally starting to get some of the ARCs I request. Lows have been mean comments, losing followers, and feeling like no matter what I write, I won't be as good as some of the bloggers who I follow.

Speaking of, what are your favorite blogs to follow?
My favorite blogs are The Story Siren, Naughty Book Kitties, and Frenetic Reader

I don’t read much paranormal or urban fantasy.  What do you recommend for the uninitiated?
For Paranormal Romance I would definitely recommend the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward, and for Urban Fantasy I would say either the Cal Leandros books by Rob Thurman or the Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs, depending on whether you want a male or female POV. I prefer male, so the Cal Leandros books are my favorite.

If you’re not reading or blogging, what are you doing?
1) If I'm not reading/blogging, I'm either watching T.V. or writing it. I'm hoping to become a television writer once I get out of college.

What do you watch on TV?
I watch quite a few shows: Supernatural, In Plain Sight, The Killing, The Glades, Covert Affairs, White Collar, Burn Notice, True Blood, Haven, Nikita, The Mentalist, Hawaii Five-0, Castle, The Vampire Diaries, Being Human, Justified, and Spartacus are a few I can name off the top of my head.

And if you could have written any TV show, what would you pick?
I wish I could have written Supernatural. Castiel is totally the best character ever.

If you could have any writer, living or dead, write your biography, whom would you choose?
If I could have any writer, living or dead, write my biography, I would choose Simon R. Green, because that would be the most twisted shizz on earth, and epically hilarious.

What are your plans for your blog?
In the future, I hope to get a professional layout for my blog, update my grievously outdated archives, and start up a meme.

Short stuff:

Coffee or tea? Both

Coke or Pepsi? Coke

PC or Mac? Mac

E-reader or printed page? Can't decide

DVR or live TV? DVR-no commercials!

Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate

Thanks for the interview, Cade, and Happy First Blogoversary next week!
